Alpine Military Route

  • Dates:- 17th-24th August 2019
  • Location:- Alps (France/Italy border)
  • Start Point:- Tende, France
  • Finish Point:- Langslebourg, France (Near Val d'Isère )
  • Duration:- 7 days.
  • Accommodation:- Camping/Wild Camping.

Maximum Altitude :- approx 10,000 ft - highest drivable point in Europe.

Places of Interest:- Casterino, Tende, Col'd Tende, Demonte, La Brigue, Guillestre, Col De Parpillion, Col de Sommeiller, Col Di Valvavera, Susa, Lac Du Cenis, Monte Jafferau.

Campsites

Most campsites will not take a booking for a single night. We will be arriving at most compsites without a booking.

Wild Camping

The term used when camping in remote areas and not at a campsite. There is wild camping planned for this tour.

Hotel Option

If you wish to stay in a Hotel you are able to look in the local area we will be staying each night, these may be a short drive from the group and we request you are back with the group the following morning on time to leave. The Hotels would need to be chosen and booked by yourself although we will give examples and area for you to enquire with.

Day 1 - Sunday

We start this tour with one of the most amazing routes, leaving camp we head to the village of La Brigue to pick up the famous Val Del Sale route which follows the French italian border, this route will take us the day to complete before arriving at a abandoned fort where we will spend the night wild camping.

Day 2 - Monday

Today is a shorter day as we taken the long senic route to the town of Tende, a shorter day will allow for a visit into the town foror a rest at the campsite.

Day 3 - Tuesday

Leaving the campsite we drive into Italy heading for the town of Demonte where we will stop for lunch before heading up into the mountains to the Col Di Valvaver then onto the Valley of Marmora to our campsite.

Day 4 - Wednesday

Leaving the Campsite we head down and through a number of small towns and villages following the gorge before heading into the forest and climbing again, over the mountain down into Sampeyre following hard surfaced roads to Guillestre in France.

Optional Hotel - Individuals may prefer to head of to a local Hotel in the town, there is lots of hotels to chose from. for 3 nights.

Day 5 - Thurday

No need to pack up the tent today, we will once again be staying at the same site. Today we will head up to Risoul and then onto the Parpillion Tunnel before heading over Col d'Var and back to Guillestre.

Day 6 - Friday

Today we move camp, we will travel most of the morning on hard surface roads travelling upto Braincon then through the Clarée Valley into Italy where we will then drive up the Col de Sommeiller, europes highest possible point to drive to at nearly 10,000ft. After reaching the top we will need to head back down and onto our final nights camp, a wild camp spot high in the mountains.

Optional Hotel - Individuals may prefer a local Hotel, there is lots to chose from in the local town of Bardonecchia or a couple of other in the mountains,

Day 7 - Sunday

Our final day, We head along a great well known trail on mount Jafferau, Then we head off to Susa and our last trail of the tour, before rejoining the main road along to the banks of a lake to say our goodbyes mid afternoon. (Unfortuatly the Tunnel is currently closed)

Vehicle Requirements

This trip is open to any 4x4 vehicle, SUV vehicles can be given alternative route to miss the harder sections. .

Supermarkets / Provisions

You will need provisions for the duration of driving days. In France & Italy shops are shut for long periods in the day and nearly all close on Sundays, apart from the hypermarkets. We will obviously be stopping at supermarkets.

Most campsites have small shops for basic provisions.

Note about Route

Although the Route as above is the planned route of the tour the Alps is prone to having trails closed due to land slides etc, In the event of a trail being closed we will need to reroute.

Whats included in the cost ?

This trip cost is for the guided trip only, it does not cover campsites/Hotel or any fuel, food or ferry etc all these cost need to be made by the client.

Price:- £750 (Per Vehicle) - (Deposit of £250 to book the remainder no later than 17th June 2019)
