IMPORTANT

Please ensure you have the correct cover required, On one of our tours a vehicle sustained a automatic gearbox fault (LR Discovery kickdown cable jammed), the AA were not very helpful and the vehicle was taken direct to a local scrap yard where our client collected it, At first the AA refused to repatriate the vehicle due to the cost (location was Island of Corsica) My belief is the gearbox issue was a minor issue which could have been fixed locally or at least fixed to allow to drive home but as soon as you mention automatic gearbox the garage said it needed a new gearbox, the vehicle had many modifications to it but these where not taken into account with the recovery/costs.

At the time of writing this (19/08/14) the couple are home but the vehicle is still in Toulon, south of france.

Important Note about breaking down on french motorways

If you break down on a motorway or major public highway in certain parts of Europe (France, for instance), the emergency telephone will be answered by the police. They will then send a local recovery vehicle out to you. As very few of these recovery agents have links with UK motoring organisations, you may have to pay for this assistance on the spot. If you do, keep all receipts you may be able to claim back from your breakdown company.
