Wiltshire/Berkshire Tag along Tour - 7/8 April 2013

Post by LostWorldAdventures » Wed Apr 10, 2013 12:00 pm

After a really bad start to the year for the weather and even snowing on Thursday I was surprised to have a full trip, but only just.

Saturday morning came and it was a frosty start but the Sun came out and it was a goriest day full of Sun. The tour started from near Stone henge, not the normal starting place but on this trip we had opted for a new Camp Site, one attached to a village pub which we had heard was good.

The day went very well with only one vehicle getting stuck on the optional lane, this lane can be challenging and it proved itself today. Within a couple of minutes we had the vehicle safely out and we were on our way.

At the end of our last lane of the day we were saying goodbye to 2 vehicles, these were late bookers and could only do the day. 1 other vehicle had opted for a hotel because of the bad weather in the weeks leading upto the tour so they also left, the rest of us proceed of to the campsite.

At this point it was still warm as the Sun was still out but we knew it was only a matter of time once the Sun went down it would turn cold. After tea and a chat about the days high lights it was time for the kids to go to bed so we got out a small fire pit and some cold/logs and lite that to try and keep us warm, it turned very cold. The remainder of us turned in at 11pm.

It was a cold night, down to -3 and I was woken to a load noise, upon pearing out there was a hot air Balloon being inflated next to us, well it was 8am nearly.

After a bacon sandwich we packed up and the hotel Vehicle arrived, we then set of for our second day, today only being 4 vehicles, a nice easy number.

Todays lanes are totally different, small, narrower, more in the country type lanes as we traveled from Wiltshire into Berkshire. Again another sunny day, bit more of a cold wind but still alot better than what I thought it would be.

The only problems we had today were a starter motor jamming, probably because of the water and mud it encountered on the Saturday, being a manual it was easy just to bump it.
